Arizona Fall League: Peoria Wins Second Straight Game

After losing their first five games of the 2021 Arizona Fall League, the Peoria Javelinas have now won two straight after a 5-4 victory against the Glendale Desert Dogs.

Ji-Hwan Bae, who went 0-3 with three strikeouts the day before, got the day off for the Javelinas. The two other Pittsburgh Pirates position players started though.

Former first round pick Nick Gonzales played second base and batted lead off for Peoria on Wednesday. He went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts, scoring a run and drawing a walk.

Canaan Smith-Njigba also failed to collect a hit, but did draw two walks and stole a base, his second of the fall. The outfielder is among the league leaders in walks in the AFL, with a total of six.

After each of the Pirates' pitchers played on Tuesday, none saw time on the mound on Wednesday, so their numbers stayed the same.
