Arizona Fall League Update: #RoansyDay Returns In The Desert

The Pittsburgh Pirates sent seven representatives to the 2021 Arizona Fall League, and up to this point in the season only four had played.

Tuesday's contest against the Salt River Rafters saw the last three players who had yet to play for the Peoria Javelinas get their first bit of live action. Maybe not a coincidence, it was also the first win of the fall for Peoria, posting a 4-2 victory on the day.

Michael Burrows was the expected start for Peoria going into the day, but the nod ended up going to Roansy Contreras. In total, all four Pirates pitching prospects that went to Arizona played for Peoria on Tuesday in the team's victory.

Contreras pitched the first two innings, allowed three hits and a run while striking out a batter. Burrows picked things up from there and threw three shutout innings, striking out two more Rafters' hitters.

Carmen Mlodzinski, Burrows teammate with Greensboro, pitched an inning, allowed a hit and recorded a strikeout of his own.

Finally, Bear Bellomy, who was a late addition to the Peoria roster, threw 1 1/3 innings on his own, striking out a hitter.

Ji-Hwan Bae got yet another start, batting leadoff, but had a rare bad game during his time in the AFL. The second baseman went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts and a walk. Even with the three strikeouts, Bae has been able to draw a walk as many times as he has gone down on strikes (4).

Peoria looks to build off their first win of the AFL season with a late night contest against the Glendale Desert Dogs, with first pitch expected about 9:35 EST.
