Arizona Fall League Update: Nick Gonzales Continues To Flex Power For Peoria
It's been a tough start to the Arizona Fall League for the Peoria Javelinas. After their 5-3 loss on Monday, they are now 0-5 on the season. At the top of the order has been the lone bright spot for them, as a pair of Pittsburgh Pirates prospects are finding success early on in the AFL.
Batting leadoff again for the Javelinas, Ji-Hwan Bae played center field and collected a pair of hits on the day. He scored a run and struck out once in the contest. For the season, the 22-year old Bae is batting .333 with a 1.021 OPS in that span.
Nick Gonzales has now hit a double in three consecutive games for Peoria. He finished the day 1 for 5 with a run scored to go along with that double.
Canaan Smith-Njigba picked up his third hit of the AFL, along with his fourth walk, the latter of which the most among Pirates' players participating.

Still only Bear Bellomy has played among Pirates' pitching prospects to participate but it does look like Michael Burrows will get the nod on Tuesday for the Javelinas.
The 21-year old Burrows went 2-2 for the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2021, posting a 2.20 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched.
