Arizona Fall League Update: Roansy Contreras, Michael Burrows Lead Peoria To Victory
The Peoria Javelinas followed up their tie from yesterday with another explosive offensive output, scoring 10 runs in their win against the Surprise Saguaros.
It was another #RoansyDay, and we saw a glimpse of Contreras at his absolute best. The righty pitched three perfect innings, striking out five batters on the day. Of his 37-pitches he needed to get through the day, 25 of them were for strikes.
Continuing their piggyback system they’ve had throughout the Arizona Fall League, Michael Burrows followed Contreras and bounced back from a rough outing a week ago. The former 11th round pick threw four innings, allowing two hits and one run, while walking one and striking out another.
Burrows saw 29-of his 46-pitches go for strikes during his outing.
Ji-Hwan Bae has comfortably settled in as the team’s lead off hitter when he plays, and scored two more runs because of his ability to get on base. On the day he finished 1 for 4, scoring the two runs, driving in one of his own, also while stealing his sixth base of the fall.
Batting second and getting back into the field after serving as the designated hitter on Monday, Nick Gonzales hit his first home run of the fall, a solo shot to lead off the seventh inning.
He was also active on the base path, swiping two bases of his own.
Canaan Smith-Njigba took a big step into snapping out the funk he was in at the plate, going 3 for 5 with all of his hits being doubles. He stole a base of his own, giving all three Pittsburgh Pirates position players a total of four on the day.
Peoria continues their season with a 3:35 PM ET start time against the Glendale Deseret Dogs.
