Arizona Fall League Update: Nick Gonzales Homers Again In Peoria Victory

It took the Peoria Javelinas five tries before winning their first game of the AFL season. After their 6-0 win over the Scottsdale Scorpions, they now sit with a record of 9-9-1.

The success has been in part to Nick Gonzales finding his footing and showing why he was a top 10 pick for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2020.

He belted his second home run, a solo shot, in the bottom of the seventh inning and was involved in the scoring on several occasions. His sacrifice fly in the first scored fellow Pirate prospect Ji-Hwan Bae to open up the scoring.

Matt Batten would score when Gonzales would reach base on a fielding error by Marco Luciano.

All in total, Gonzales finished the day 1 for 3 with two runs scored, and driven in.

Bae collected another hit and walk, going 1 for 3 on the day out of the leadoff spot. He also stole his seventh base of the fall. At the moment, Bae has the third most stolen bases in the AFL and second most runs scored.

Having Bae and Gonzales at the top of the order has played a big part in Peoria's turnaround from an 0-4 start to the fall, with the duo posting a .857 and .977 OPS, respectively.
